Dr. Ravi Kumar Mehrotra, a name well-known to all aspiring Seafarers and a guide to several hardcore maritime professionals, has yet again made huge strides to inspire us all.
When the world thought he had reached the epitome of his professional career, he outdid himself when the University of London conferred upon him the Degree of Doctor of Science Honoris Causa for his unmatched contribution in his field of profession.

Dr. Ravi Kr Mehrotra hails from the city of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, India. Dr. Mehrotra passed out from DMET, Kolkata (now M.E.R.I/ IMU Kolkata) in 1964 to join the Shipping Corporation of India as a Trainee Marine Engineer. With immese hardwork and thorough dedication, Dr Mehrotra made it to the rank of a Chief Engineer in the same company.
Soon enough, with his invaluable experience and his innate risk-taking ability, Dr. Mehrotra was successful in building his own company from scratch. Today, Dr. Mehrotra is the Executive Chairman of the company he founded as a one-man startup and is the leading light of the Foresight Group, a globally established shipping, oil drilling, port operator, and conglomerate worth the US $ 2 billion.
In 2006, Dr. Mehrotra was awarded the title of Commander of the British Empire and the key to the city of London. Dr. Mehrotra is also Chairman of the European Indian Chamber of Commerce (EICC), a member of the visiting faculty for the Cambridge Academy of Transport, a former board member with Lloyd's register, and a popular speaker at International Conferences.
Dr. Mehrotra, along with his wife Mrs. Manju Mehrotra has worked for the welfare of young Indian students. They established the 'Manju Mehrotra Scholarships' to support students from India to pursue higher education abroad.
Not too long ago in a session of DMET SAMVAAD, an interactive webinar between the Alumni and Cadets of IMU-Kolkata, Dr. Mehrotra graced with his presence to inspire the young cadets and passionately talked about his Alma Mater. He instilled his risk-taking abilities in everyone with tales of his valiant adventure in the Maritime World.
To put his inspiring career in perspective, Dr. Mehrotra now acquires a part of the company which he had joined after passing out from college, the Shipping Corporation of India. He is also the first man to develop the world’s first CNG port based in Bhavnagar in Gujarat, India.
In recognition of his vast achievements in the Maritime Industry as well as in the Business World, in addition to his philanthropic work, the Degree of Doctor of Science Honoris Causa by the University of London is conferred upon Dr. Ravi Kumar Mehrotra.
