Russian Navy Came Into Force To Defend MSC Lucia

One of the Container Vessels of Mediterranean Shipping Company, MSC Lucia is sabotaged and boarded on the center of the Gulf of Guinea revealed by the Russian Navy. The vessel was boarded on the 25th of October but until now there is no evidence of the other vessel which is pertained to in this attack reported by the UK-operated MDAT-GoG piracy report.

On the 22nd of October, the Lucia transited to Lome which was first called at the of San Pedro in Cote D'Ivoire last week. Then on the 24th of October, Lucia departed from Lome and headed towards the southeast across the Gulf of Guinea. Based on the AIS data provided by the Pole Star it was confirmed that at 0900 Greenwich Mean Time on 25th morning at a position of about 150 nm to the northwest of the island of Sao Tome, the Lucia was de-stress up to 14 Knots to thwart.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, the destroyer's Vice-Admiral Kulakov received a distress signal from the MSC Lucia on Monday Morning. The Merchant Navy Vessel reported that the pirates were can through a speed boat and climbed aboard. Lucia's crew had fled to the engine room for safety.

After receiving the Signal from the MSC vessel the Russian navy has come into force and has sent the Kumov Ka-27PS helicopter which has a special boarding party of the Russian Navy. The ministry said that when the pirates had seen the helicopter moving toward the ship they ran away through their speed boats towards the coast with their maximum speed.

As of Monday evening, MSC Lucia stayed adrift at stance 02 12 N 004 54 E. The Kulakov has boarded the marine party into the ship to scan the ship for any kind of danger and to free the crew which was there in the engine room.

The Vice-Admiral Kulakov is presently regulating at the Gulf of Guinea with the patrolling party, aided by the fleet Oiler and the rescue tug for about 3 weeks.
