Indian Containership Hit by Cyclone Tauktau, claims life of 1 seafarer

SSL Ganga, an Indian Flagged containership lost one crew overboard and got its 3 of the crew members injured out of the rough weather owing to Cyclone Tauktau.

Arabia Waters off the Mangalore Port witnessed the catastrophe in the evening of 15th May. The cyclone had hit the coastal areas of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, and in response to which NDRF has formed 15 specific teams.

All 4 crew members were performing their job on the deck when the waves hit. Though the ship left Mangalore for Hazira on May 15, it returned on May 16 to Mangalore in order to facilitate the injured crew member a clinical treatment.

However, it has been reported that the ship was busy searching for the crew member who fell overboard for few hours before returning. Currently, on 17th May, the SSL Ganga stands at Mangalore.
